  Jockey means a person riding on race horses.

Horse racing cannot hold only horses. Jockey is important for horse racing. Even if a horse is strong and a jockey is not good at holding a horse by the bridle, they cannot win a race. On the other hand, if a jockey is good at holding a horse by the bridle and horse is not strong, they cannot also win a race.

  There is a proverb that is “Uma Shichi Hito San”(horse’s power is composed of not only horse’s ability but also jockey’s skill). Jockey who has good skill in horse racing can draw out horse’s latent ability.

  There are mainly two important points about the skill in riding on horse. One is that jockey calm horse down, and makes horse run in relaxation. Other is having the skill in running good position or strategy to win the race while surveying the whole race. An expert jockey has above mentioned skills without exception.

  Jockey cannot acquire skill in riding on horse in a short time, but can acquire the skill through experience of riding on horses.

  Jockey leading is ranking of jockeys a year. Top-ranking jockeys can believe without anxiety.

  Jockey has aptitude for a short or long distance. So there are many types in jockeys.

  From those stated above, it is important for jockey to gain many experience. Therefore jockey who wins under 100 races can receive odds that the weight that horse which this jockey ride on is given can decrease.

He won Japan Cup riding on Gentildonna in November 25^th 2012. His skill of riding on horses brought out the potential of Gentildonna well.

To become jockey, we must study at Keibagakkou (school which we can study about horse racing). To enter this school, under 20, and under 44kg are need. Furthermore, to ride on racehorse, jockey license is need. In addition, the period for jockey license is available is one year. So jockeys must renew jockey license. Also jockeys who play an active part in foreign countries may be given jockey license which is available one month. This license can issue for three month in a year. Using this system, jockey who are famous in the world participate in Japan’s horse racing.

  Take Yutaka is one of the famous jockey in japan.

  This is Take Yutaka. It was 25 years ago that he made him debut as a jockey. He broke a range of records in JRA, so he is often called genius.

  Jockeys often reduce one’s weight because they must ride on horses with weight that was decided. So jockey’s life style is strict.

  Jockey’s income is reward of race plus an allowance of riding cost. Top class jockeys are may gain over one hundred million as income. But a jockey who could not win races gains not so much income.
