The media

Hello. A while ago, on December 9^th 2012, a horse whose name is “Riyand-Famiyu” made him debut in horse racing. He is Orfevre’s younger brother, so he became the center of public attention. However on January 19^th 2013, he participated in a race, and he broke his paw! I expected him and was going to enjoy watching his race, but I was shocked because of his fracture. He came in first in the race, so I was glad of the result, but the shocking news had a strong influence on a lot of fans of horse racing.

Last time, I introduce retired horses especially “Deep Impact”, and “Silence Suzuka”. Because such horses had an influence on society, many media emphasize the thing which is related to horse racing. For example, newspaper, video game, and comic is good example.

In newspaper, there are many race cards which list of horses which participate in a race, and there is also newspaper reporter’s forecast, and so on. It is important for our forecast to watch these newspapers. There may be nice advice in the newspaper.

Next, in comic, “Midori no Makibao-“ is the most famous comics in japan. It was started 1994 to 1997, hero is certain horse whose name is “Midori no Makibao-“. I do not read this comic, so I want to read these comics. This comic was televising as anime, and the game which is based on this comic was sold.

In video games, one of the most famous video games are “Winning Post” and “Derby Stallion” and so on. These game is horse racing series and sales of these games is fantastic! In these games we can bread horses and can participate in races, that is to say, we can become a horse trainer and a jockey. I have played these games, therefore it is interesting and excite me! In game center, there are many game of horse racing which we forecast win horses.

These media cause boom of horse racing too. So horse cause the first boom, and next these media cause the second boom.

I, however, enjoy forecasting horses which win real race. It is more exciting than video games.

As stated above, horse racing and horses which play an active part vigorously have an effect on society. It is very fantastic! So the more popular horse racing and horses which play an active part vigorously are, the more revitalize the economy was.

This time I introduced the media. It has another aspect of horse racing. We tend to concentrate horse racing only but I want you to know that there are many aspect of horse racing, and horse racing has an effect on the economy. Next time, at last, I introduce betting ticket, so I tell you how to buy winning ticket. This topic is as expected main point of horse racing and I am very interested in this topic. To buy winning ticket, several things (for example weight and condition and so on) are important and need. Please expect next topic. Good Bye!

The retired horses

The retired horses

Hello! Last time I tell you the thing which is needed by horse racing. This time, I choose the horses especially. Race horses are participate in races until their retirement.

By the way, what do race horses do after they retire? Almost female race horses are broodmare. But almost male race horses cannot be stallion. For race horses, blood relationship is important. Furthermore blood relationship and records of father is very important because blood relationship is more affected by father than mother. In addition, broodmare can have only one baby a year, but demand of broodmare is about 8000 a year, so female race horses which do not have good records must be needed. Stallion can mate over 100 broodmare, so demand of stallion can be satisfied even if choosing stallion only famous and strong male race horse. So, stallion is strong or having good blood relationship.

Here, I introduce historic race horse. The first, I introduce “Deep Impact”. You may hear this name. He is very famous in Japan. He is the strongest race horses in same generation. Please watch this video.

Deep Impact is number 4, and in immediately of goal, his speed is burst. Any horses cannot catch up with him. This race is Arima Kinen(G1), so all race horses which participate in this race is strong. His last race, but his ability was shine and he won this race by a wide margin. He ran 13 races, and he won 12 races!! Moreover the rest race is second best! He was the strongest race horses is no doubt. I was given “Impact”!

But, I like more “Silence Suzuka” than “Deep Impact”. Please watch this race.

This race is G2, but I think its revel is almost same G1. Silence Suzuka is different type of Deep Impact. He run high pace at the beginning of race, and he win race without change nevertheless he is more tired than other horses. As I watched this race style, I was given big Impact! I want you to another race.

This race is also G2 race, but race horses which was participate in this race is very famous, and strong, and several horses won G1 race. So this race’s revel is very high, but this horse won overwhelming victory.

This horse won six races in a row, but in 1998, he participated in Tennousyou –autumn- which is G1 race and his last race. I had shock and became sad. Please watch this video.

He broke his leg this time. So he lost this race and he retired after this race. Horse racing gives strong damage. So trainer’s care is very important.

Silence Suzuka is loved many fan of horse racing, and his grave was constructed after his death. If he did not break his leg, result of Tennousyou –autumn- might be his win.

This time I introduce especially Deep Impact and Silence Suzuka. But in race horse, there are many attractive and strong horses (for example Oguri cap).       Oguri cap won 12 races in a row, and he caused boom of horse racing!!!

Next time I tell you the media which is TV or cartoon or newspaper. Thank you!

What’s JRA?

What’s JRA?

Hello! 3 weeks have passed since beginning of 2013, large prize which is special featured race in horse racing have been started. Because of snow, race was going to hold in January 14^th is canceled. So, in January 21^st, substitute race was held. Horse racing tends to be affected by bad weather. Therefore, in January 19^th ~ 21^st, four large prize races were held!! Last weekend was really exciting!

Last time, I tell you about jockey and horses. However to hold horse racing, “JRA” is need. This time I tell you about JRA.

What’s JRA? JRA is Japan Racing Association. It is semi-governmental corporation. It has been started since 1954 along with making rows of horse racing, and it is supervised by the Minister of Agriculture. Its important idea is holding fare horse racing with this regulation.

JRA have all horse race tracks and “WINS”, and many facilities. You may not hear “WINS”. It is place where we can buy betting ticket and watch horse race. Many facilities are training center and school of horse racing, and facilities of introducing horse racing. In addition, JRA offer many service for example talk show or redeyes day and so on.

In JRA homepage (http://www.jra.go.jp) , history of JRA is introduced. The number of holding horse race has been increasing year by year. In 1954, the number of holding horse race is 2120, but last year, the number of this is 3453! Over 1000 races were increased. The number of spectators of race track is also increasing comparing with 2012, but after 1973, it is decreasing year by year. There are two boom of horse racing. The first was started in1973. The number of it is 15 million, and it is the most large number of spectators since 1954. Next boom was started in 1980s to 1990s. the number of it is about 14 billion, and in 2012, the number of it is 6 billion! It is half number in 1996. JRA try to increase number of spectator hard. There is the strong and famous horse in center of boom, for example, “deep impact” and “Haiseiko” and so on. We are excited the strongest and fastest horses. As a result of affected by these boom, many video game was created and cartoon, and movie! It happened a social phenomenon, so these boom of horse racing is very large and now population of horse racing is fall. I am a little sad.

As described above, JRA is semi-governmental corporation, so it is one of the governments of japan. Therefore they pay payment to the state coffers over 10% of proceeds. So JRA and horse racing of Japan is play a role of economy of Japan and government of Japan.

This time I introduced JRA which is important for horse racing. Next I want to tell you famous retired horses. There are many historic horses. For example, “deep impact” and “Haiseiko” which are center of the boom of horse racing and so on is famous. Thank you!

The races

Races

Arima Kinnen is held in December 24th 2012 at Nakayama race track!! I think this race is very very exciting!! Gold Ship is strong as we thought. Ruler Ship is late for start dash. No matter what happens, it is natulal for horse racing. Furthermore, in January 4^th 2013, the first large prize race in 2013 is held on Nakayama race track and Kyoto race track. All of races is very exciting and interesting.

A number of famous race tracks in japan is about 10. Nakayama race track and Kyoto race track are also one of those race tracks. At Nakayama race track, Arima Kinenn is famous. This track has slope before goal. In addition, the last straight line is shorter than other race track, length of that is 310m. On the other hand, at Tokyo race track, the last straight line is 500m. It is so long. In this race track, eight G1 races is hold. Furthermore, Nippon Derby is also hold in this race track. Therefore this race track is the center of JRA’s 10 race tracks.

Kyoto race track is famous for stage of long distance G1 for example Tennnousyou in spring and Kikkasyou. This track also has slope and horse suffer from this slope. Hannshinn race track is repair in 2006, and this course’s last straight line is 473m, moreover shape of course look like rice ball. In Hokkaido, there are two race tracks. One is Sapporo race track. This race track is famous for Sapporo Kinnen. Other race track is Hakodate race track. From this race track, we can see the sea. And there are several hot springs near there. This last straight lines is the shortest in 10 race tracks. Hukushima race track is famous of local race track. In March 11^th 2011, because of Tohoku earthquake, all race cannot hold in 2011, but resume in 2012. Niigata race track has the longest last straight line. This length is 659m!! 1000m race in this race track is straight line. So we can see racehorses up close. Tyuukyou race track is also repair, so this race track had the short last straight line before, but now, this length is 410m. So, explosive power is important. Ogura race track has hill at second corner. Passing the hill, after that go down straight, so horses are likely to be speed up. Besides, there are several race tracks. So, there are many race tracks in Japan.

Race track is very exciting. Going to race horse to watch horse racing, you may feel more power than watching through TV. I want to go race track and to watch horse race. We must be excited Arima Kinnen, Japan Cup, etc.

In 2013, which horses play an active part is very interesting. For example Orfervre, Gentildonna, Gold Ship, and so on. The first prize races in 2013 at Nakayama race track and Kyoto race track have long history and tradition. This time I show you race tracks in japan. Each race tracks have distinctive feature, it is interesting.

The jockey

The jockey

Jockey means a person riding on race horses.

Horse racing cannot hold only horses. Jockey is important for horse racing. Even if a horse is strong and a jockey is not good at holding a horse by the bridle, they cannot win a race. On the other hand, if a jockey is good at holding a horse by the bridle and horse is not strong, they cannot also win a race.

There is a proverb that is “Uma Shichi Hito San”(horse’s power is composed of not only horse’s ability but also jockey’s skill). Jockey who has good skill in horse racing can draw out horse’s latent ability.

There are mainly two important points about the skill in riding on horse. One is that jockey calm horse down, and makes horse run in relaxation. Other is having the skill in running good position or strategy to win the race while surveying the whole race. An expert jockey has above mentioned skills without exception.

Jockey cannot acquire skill in riding on horse in a short time, but can acquire the skill through experience of riding on horses.

Jockey leading is ranking of jockeys a year. Top-ranking jockeys can believe without anxiety.

Jockey has aptitude for a short or long distance. So there are many types in jockeys.

From those stated above, it is important for jockey to gain many experience. Therefore jockey who wins under 100 races can receive odds that the weight that horse which this jockey ride on is given can decrease.

In 2011, the top jockey ranker is Iwata Yasunari.

He won Japan Cup riding on Gentildonna in November 25^th 2012. His skill of riding on horses brought out the potential of Gentildonna well.

To become jockey, we must study at Keibagakkou (school which we can study about horse racing). To enter this school, under 20, and under 44kg are need. Furthermore, to ride on racehorse, jockey license is need. In addition, the period for jockey license is available is one year. So jockeys must renew jockey license. Also jockeys who play an active part in foreign countries may be given jockey license which is available one month. This license can issue for three month in a year. Using this system, jockey who are famous in the world participate in Japan’s horse racing.

Take Yutaka is one of the famous jockey in japan.

This is Take Yutaka. It was 25 years ago that he made him debut as a jockey. He broke a range of records in JRA, so he is often called genius.

Jockeys often reduce one’s weight because they must ride on horses with weight that was decided. So jockey’s life style is strict.

Jockey’s income is reward of race plus an allowance of riding cost. Top class jockeys are may gain over one hundred million as income. But a jockey who could not win races gains not so much income.

This time I show about jockey. Jockey is important for horse racing, and to become jockey is very difficult. Next week I will show you about races.
